I've passed the worst of this week's BACK SPASM.
It started Tuesday near the end of class: too many 180s and front leg round-houses.
After 48 hours of muscle relaxants, pain killers, and chiro, I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Next week, I'll get the hip/back Xrayed to see if there's anything structurally wrong. And with any luck, I'm onto physical therapy which means lots of aggressive back & hip treatments. Specifically, lots of painful stretching.
Osa!

So glad to find this blog. I'm 46 and a brown belt in Sanshinkai. My aging muscles and back make me question if I will ever make it to black, but I'm still hanging in there! Just wanted to mention something that has made it possible for me to keep going when I pull a bad muscle or wrench my hip too far. QiVantage.com has saved me on more than one occasion with their Recovery Paste. I'm totally not affiliated with them. I just happened to find them when I pulled my hamstring on a high front snap kick and couldn't walk for 3 months. I had tried everything else I could find (heat, ice, Icy Hot, Bengay, ibuprofen, etc) with no help and then I tried the QiVantage paste for 5 days and my hamstring was completely cured. I injure myself all the time in class (cuz I'm a klutz) and every time the paste or the cream helps me recover faster. Best of luck to you and keep kicking!
